European Commission consults on the ESAs

The European Commission (DG FISMA, Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union) has launched a public consultation on the way forward for European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs). These are the European Banking Authority (EBA), the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). The aim is to identify areas where the effectiveness and efficiency of the ESAs can be strengthened and improved. A general review of the ESAs is foreseen for this year and mandated by their founding Regulations. The consultation will run until 16 May 2017.

ESMA PROPOSES XBRL FOR ISSUERS’ FINANCIAL REPORTING

ESMA logoThe European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published a feedback statement setting out the digital format which issuers in the European Union (EU) must use to report their company information from 1 January 2020. It concludes that Inline XBRL is the most suitable technology to meet the EU requirement for issuers to report their annual financial reports in a single electronic format because it enables both machine and human readability in one document. XBRL WEEK IN FRANKFURT 2016 was a tremendous experience!
Around 200 participants from 30 countries shared views and experiences in more than 50 meetings and presentations held at the ECB premises in Frankfurt. The organisation warmly thanks the European Central Bank and its staff for having hosted the public events, the volunteers for all the work, the speakers for their contribution to the events and the audience for being there.
